What ArabicGenius keeps about you, why, who else sees it, and how to take it with you or delete it.
Last updated October 28, 2026
What we keep
- Your account: email address, first and last name, password (stored only as a one-way hash), time zone, the learning choices you make (daily goal, kind of Arabic, reasons for learning) and your placement level.
- Your learning: your flashcards and reviews, reading progress, the classes you join, and a daily record of study time, lookups and pages read, which drive your streak and progress pages. Study time is counted only while the site is open and you are active.
- What you upload: the files you upload and the text read from them. Uploads are private to your account.
- What you write or say to the AI: questions to the reading assistant are sent to answer you and not kept. Your conversations with Genius are kept so you can review them and carry on; they are deleted with your account.
- Messages to us from the contact form.
- Payments: you enter card details on Stripe’s payment page, and they go only to Stripe. We keep your plan, the card’s brand and last four digits, and copies of your invoices.
Who else sees it
We don’t sell your data or show ads. Some services work for us and receive only what they need. You can turn off the AI features at any time in Settings › Privacy & AI; then nothing more is sent to Ollama, DeepSeek or Google for you.
- Ollama (AI) runs DeepSeek’s AI models, in the United States, and receives the text of the page you’re reading with your question, or your messages to Genius, to write the answer. It says it doesn’t log or keep what it receives. When Ollama isn’t working, the same text goes to DeepSeek (AI, in China) instead. Neither receives your name or email.
- Google (Gemini Live), if you talk with Genius by voice: your voice goes straight from your browser to Google while the microphone is on, so Genius can hear and answer you. We keep the text of what was said, not the audio.
- Google (Gemini and Document AI) receives the pages of your uploads that need reading by OCR, and (Gemini) the recordings you make on the Speaking page, to score your pronunciation. We don’t keep your recordings; we keep only the scores. Gemini also receives what you type in the Library’s search box (not who typed it), to find related passages by meaning; your uploads are never sent for this.
- Google sign-in, if you choose “Continue with Google”: Google tells us your name, email address and Google account number, and that you signed in. We don’t receive your Google password or anything else from your account.
- Sign in with Apple, if you choose “Continue with Apple” in our app: Apple tells us your Apple account number, your email address (or a private relay address Apple forwards to you, if you choose to hide yours) and, the first time, your name. We don’t receive your Apple password or anything else from your account.
- Stripe (payments) receives your email address and name, your card details when you enter them on its page, and what you buy.
- Our hosting, file storage and email providers store and deliver the site’s data and emails.
- Teachers of classes you join see your name, level, streak and progress on the readings they assign. Classmates see your first name, the initial of your last name and your weekly study time on the leaderboard, unless you turn that off in your profile.
Cookies and storage in your browser
We use cookies only to keep you signed in and to remember settings such as a collapsed sidebar. There are no advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser also keeps a few conveniences on your device, such as recent dictionary searches and typing scores.
Your choices
- Download your data from your profile: your account details, flashcards, reading progress and study history in one file.
- Delete your account from your profile. Your account, learning history and uploads are deleted at once. Copies in our database backups disappear within 14 days. If you started a Pro free trial, we keep a one-way fingerprint of your email address (not the address itself) so the trial isn’t offered to it again.
- Correct your details in your profile, or ask us to.
Questions
Ask us anything about your data from the contact form. If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you by email before it takes effect.
